The heart of our practice

Kelly Maslen, R.Ac

It was 20 years ago when I followed my passion for helping others. I started as a Holistic Nutritionist and Birth Doula, and I spent countless hours as a supportive and stabilizing force for women in Toronto.

I discovered the profound healing benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) after seeking a remedy for stress, anxiety and pain. Where conventional medicine failed to relieve my symptoms, I turned to acupuncture and I was astounded by the immediate sense of calm I felt. And then again while pregnant with my daughter, I turned to acupuncture to relieve my nausea, insomnia, aches, and pains.

With renewed inspiration, I dedicated myself to studying this ancient medicine and it became the focus of my life’s work. As an honours graduate from the Acupuncture Integrative Medicine Academy, I wholeheartedly embrace the teachings of acupuncture and passionately share this wisdom with others to relieve pain, re-balance and promote energy and vitality.

Prevention is key

Believing that prevention is key, I empower my patients to make healthy lifestyle transitions to restore optimal health and improve quality of life.

I offer a warm, compassionate and grounded presence to all my patients. Having been a healthcare professional for almost two decades, I have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share.

A safe environment

All my therapies are delivered in a calm, competent and down-to-earth manner that instills trust and creates a sense of safety in the treatment space. I am incredibly grateful to know my life’s purpose is to share my love of acupuncture and make a positive impact in the lives of others.

I remember the moment I fell in love with Chinese Medicine as a child. My mother would take me along to her acupuncture appointments and I was captivated by the way that such delicate needles could bring the entire body back into harmony and balance. When I began to receive my own paediatric treatments, (marking 3 generations of women in my family healing through acupuncture), I was amazed by the sense of calm and integration of mind and body that I felt during treatment. I also came to understand that from childhood asthma, to sports injuries, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine could provide a path to wellness even where allopathic medicine offered minimal solutions.

After graduating university with a specialization in East Asian thought and its intersection with wellness, I came to a realization that Traditional Chinese Medicine was my true calling. I set out on a path of alignment with my values as an acupuncturist and herbalist. As an honours graduate of Toronto’s Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine Academy, I cultivated the skills to care for both the physical and psycho-emotional elements of my patients’ health in a safe and warm environment. The intention of my practice is to provide compassionate, patient-forward and trauma-informed care. I will work with you so that you feel supported and empowered to find balance, harmony and a state of wellbeing. We will work together to develop a treatment plan personalized to suit your needs and lifestyle. As the classical physician Sun Simiao once stated “Above all, I will maintain a peaceful presence and an open heart.

I promise to follow the way of the Great Physician, to live in harmony with nature, and to teach my patients to do the same.
