Trust. Support. Empowerment.
We truly believe trust, support and empowerment is what it takes to create a safe, easy and delightful birthing and postnatal experience for our clients.
It takes a village. We once had many women supporting birth but now there is little tradition left in North American society where women are supported with a tribe of mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends. My group of chosen doulas strive to provide women with the family support needed to encourage an easy transition into the best parent you can be.
My doulas are your village. Please read more about these wonderful, experienced doulas that will empower and support you and always have your best interests at heart.
Birth and Postpartum Doula
My road to becoming a doula has been a very natural progression. The decision to enter this field was like entering through a door that has sat in front of me for years, simply waiting for the right time to step through revealing a beautiful yet innate world behind it. I have always been drawn to pregnancy, birth and the powerful role of parenthood.
I have spent 8 years in a support and advocacy role as a social worker for marginalized youth within the GTA. I have assisted and supported youth by providing one on one counselling, advocacy, crisis management, referrals, and establishing relevant supportive programming. Within this role, I have had the privilege to work with many young women and their families as they navigate their prenatal and postpartum care in their early years of parenting. I assisted them in preparing for their births and provided postpartum support by aiding with infant care, breastfeeding support and bonding. These past years have reinforced my connection and passion to the birthing field and have greatly influenced my desire to be a Doula.
As the mother of two boys, my own birth experiences have further propelled me. With the support of those around me I was able to birth both my sons naturally at home trusting my body and theirs to work together to bring them earth side. These experiences changed me not only into a mother but also that of a greater supporter of women and advocate of the birthing process.
As a CAPPA trained Birth and Postpartum Doula, I have had the honour of supporting numerous women achieve positive birth experiences by providing continuous hands-on support and guidance as they welcomed their little loves into this world. I have also had the honour of supporting families in the sacred journey of parenthood by providing support, understanding and information as they ease into their new roles.
Birth is truly an individual and beautiful process. In the nurturing role of a Doula, my hope and goal are to work with you to provide the most positive birth experience possible and to support your journey into parenthood. I am trained in acupressure for pregnancy, birth and labour
and hold a Bachelors of Social Work from Ryerson University.
Birth Doula Postpartum Doula and Lactation Educator, Holistic Nutritionist and Reiki Practitioner
My career in the healthcare field spans over 25 years, a gathering of experiences which include my work as a Pharmacy Technician at The Hospital for Sick Children, Doula training at the Aviva Institute for Midwifery, Holistic Nutritionist training at CSNN, and my training and practice as a Jikiden Reiki practitioner.
Although these have influenced my life and work philosophy, it is my early personal experiences that have fed my passion for working with families. I grew up surrounded by the support of my large family and community. I have a deep and loving respect for my mother’s approach to raising and running a household of 6, something that became clear to me, as I approached the new and daunting task of becoming a mother myself.
Women are natural caregivers. So much so, that they often deplete themselves by looking after other’s needs before their own. I believe that the mother is the centre of the family and requires support, nurturance and nourishment during the childbearing year. When the mother’s needs are met and supported by families, friends, community, (and doulas) the whole family flourishes.
I bring compassion, empathy, and energy to my work and I take pride in offering a continuum of care from pregnancy to postpartum. I provide nourishment through healthy meal preparation for pre and post birth, informational, emotional and physical support for all types of labour & births, in addition to helpful tips on healing the mother and overall baby care.
Birth and Postpartum Doula, Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
As a birth and postpartum doula, it is an honour and privilege to support women through pregnancy, birthing and the welcoming of new life.
I am also excited to have completed my training as a placenta encapsulation specialist. I am passionate about the benefits of placentophagy. I truly enjoy working with the placenta and hearing about the benefits it provides to new moms!
The births of my two sons have been the most transformative and important experiences of my life. I was lucky to have been encouraged and inspired by my own mother and other women in my life through positive birth stories. These powerful stories and personal moments dramatically inspire expecting mothers and help build beliefs and curb apprehensions regarding their own upcoming births.
Through volunteer work and activism in the women’s community, I continue to be reminded of the core strength and power that women bring to all aspects of our lives.
Tehseen Meghji, BSc., ND
Naturopathic Doctor, Doula
I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Doula serving Toronto and the GTA. My training as a Doula began at a very early age. I was consistently drawn to pregnant mothers as a child, often asking to touch their bellies, fascinated by the growing life inside them. At the age of 4, when my mother was pregnant with my sister, I recall spending hours by her side massaging her with my little feet and holding her hair back when she was nauseous. I vividly remember holding my sister in my arms on the day she was born, in awe of the miracle of birth. I officially completed Naturopathic Doula training in 2011, and had the privilege of witnessing my first birth in Haiti during a medical externship. Since then I have gained experience in home and hospital births and am honored to be a part of Kelly Maslen’s team of birth professionals.
My goal as a Naturopathic Doula is to provide mothers with an environment that is comfortable, empowering and supportive for their birthing experience. I believe in working with mothers and fathers to awaken their innate strength to parenthood and to provide them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the birthing process. Healthy and happy babies and parents bring me the utmost joy, and I am committed to providing families with positive birth experiences.
As a Naturopathic Doula, I have the unique ability to provide Naturopathic care during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period. I utilize safe and gentle naturopathic modalities, such as nutritional supplementation, acupuncture, botanical herbs and homeopathic remedies to ease discomfort, and ensure optimal nutritional health during pregnancy, effective pain management during labour, and enhanced postpartum healing and breastmilk production.
I look forward to being a part of this empowering and transformative time in your life.
